Why Test Connection Creates a New Identity After a Real Site Migration

Test Connection is the deliberate confirmation mechanism QCTNH uses to distinguish a real site migration from an accidental clone or unexpected origin mismatch.

What happens when the origin changed

The Test Connection path calls registration with origin-change permission. When the current normalized origin is genuinely different, QCTNH creates a new installation UUID and a new local service secret, clears the old local registration state, and records an origin_changed_confirmed event before registering the current site.

Why background activity cannot do this

Automatic heartbeat/check-in behavior is intentionally conservative. If it sees a different origin, it preserves the old identity and logs origin_mismatch_ignored. Only the administrator’s explicit Test Connection action may confirm a new origin.

Test Connection also tests real WebCron

After preparing native WebCron, registration validates the public endpoint and sends a real WebCron request. One eligible due Scheduled Task may execute during the test. Use Check WebCron instead if you only need to prepare/validate local WebCron configuration without deliberately giving Joomla a task-execution opportunity.

Finish the canonical URL first
