How Automatic QCTNH Registration Works

Automatic registration connects the local QCTNH installation to the free QuantaCade wake-up service after local Joomla WebCron is ready.

When registration is attempted

  • During package installation/update postflight after WebCron preparation.
  • When an enabled QCTNH administrator page loads and the site is not currently registered.
  • When a check-in detects a missing/invalid registration.
  • When enabling the service requires a new registration identity.
  • When WebCron credential drift requires re-registration.

Registration sequence

  1. Protect the stored site identity against an unexpected origin change.
  2. Confirm the service is enabled.
  3. Enable/prepare Joomla native WebCron and obtain the current WebCron key.
  4. Capture a scheduler snapshot: next due, whether next due is known, and due count.
  5. Send the installation UUID, origin, WebCron endpoint/key, local service secret, Maximum Scheduler Delay, Joomla version, QCTNH version, and scheduler timing to QuantaCade.
  6. QuantaCade validates the public native WebCron target and performs a real direct WebCron probe.
  7. On success, QCTNH records the registered origin, current WebCron-key hash, registration/contact timestamps, and Recent Activity event.

Failure behavior

A failed registration does not uninstall QCTNH or fabricate Connected status. The local site records a warning and can retry through normal lifecycle activity. Use Check WebCron before Test Connection when diagnosing a first-run failure.

Why the service can stay quiet

The mechanism in How Automatic QCTNH Registration Works is designed to minimize needless traffic. Once QuantaCade has a trustworthy future next_due, it can schedule the next useful check near that time with small jitter and a bounded safety recheck rather than polling the Joomla site every few minutes indefinitely.

Fresh state after WebCron completion is especially valuable because it tells the worker whether more work remains due, a later future task is known, or the site can safely sleep.
