Troubleshooting DNS or Public-IP Validation Failures

DNS/public-IP validation failures mean the Task Nudge service cannot safely resolve the registered Joomla hostname to an allowed public destination.

Check DNS from outside your hosting network

  • A/AAAA records exist for the canonical hostname.
  • Records point to the intended public server/CDN, not localhost/LAN/reserved space.
  • Recent DNS migrations have propagated.
  • Split DNS is not returning a private address to public resolvers.

Why QCTNH rejects private/reserved targets

The public worker must not become a way to reach internal networks. Registration therefore checks resolved addresses and rejects non-public/private/reserved results.

After repair

Once public DNS is correct, rerun Test Connection. If the site intentionally exists only on a private network, use Joomla CLI/server-cron methods instead of trying to register it with the public QCTNH service.

Avoid destructive shortcuts

The guidance for Troubleshooting DNS or Public-IP Validation Failures does not require manually editing QCTNH identity, WebCron URL/key, scheduler locks, or next_execution in the database as a first response. QCTNH/Joomla already expose supported repair paths for registration, WebCron preparation, and task administration.

Direct database changes can break clone protection, hide credential drift, or allow overlapping tasks. Use them only as a separately planned recovery procedure with backups and clear source-level justification.

Troubleshoot DNS/public-IP validation

  1. Resolve the canonical hostname using a public DNS resolver and inspect A/AAAA answers.
  2. Confirm every relevant target is intended and publicly routable rather than loopback, LAN/private, link-local, or reserved space.
  3. Correct DNS and allow propagation; also verify the canonical hostname is the one Joomla/QCTNH is registering.
  4. Run Test Connection again only after public resolution is correct.
