Troubleshooting HTTP 403 WebCron Responses

An HTTP 403 response means the WebCron request reached a web server that refused it. Investigate WAF/access controls and the exact native route before blaming the Scheduled Task itself.

Common 403 sources

  • Web application firewall/bot rule blocks the QuantaCade worker request.
  • Server/IP allow/deny rule rejects the request.
  • Security extension rejects the AJAX route or query pattern.
  • Reverse proxy/CDN policy blocks the request before Joomla.

Current worker behavior

The worker uses a browser-like User-Agent to reduce false bot-signature blocks but does not bypass access controls. If the target is on the same physical server as QuantaCade and the direct request specifically returns 403, the production service has a narrow local Joomla Scheduler CLI fallback. Other errors are not converted into local execution.

Fix the real 403

  1. Reproduce/inspect the request in server/WAF logs using the timestamp from QCTNH activity.
  2. Allow the exact validated Joomla WebCron route from the legitimate service path without broadly weakening site security.
  3. Run Test Connection again.
  4. Confirm later direct wake-ups work; do not rely on same-server fallback as the normal architecture.

Avoid destructive shortcuts

The guidance for Troubleshooting HTTP 403 WebCron Responses does not require manually editing QCTNH identity, WebCron URL/key, scheduler locks, or next_execution in the database as a first response. QCTNH/Joomla already expose supported repair paths for registration, WebCron preparation, and task administration.

Direct database changes can break clone protection, hide credential drift, or allow overlapping tasks. Use them only as a separately planned recovery procedure with backups and clear source-level justification.
