Troubleshooting the QCTNH Update Connection

An update-connection problem means Joomla cannot use the expected QCTNH update-site relationship; it does not by itself mean scheduler wake-ups are broken.

Start on Status

  1. Open QCTNH → Status.
  2. Run Check for Updates.
  3. Read the Update connection message and Last checked value.
  4. If the refresh fails, open Joomla System → Update → Extensions and look for the matching QCTNH package/update-site error.

Common causes

  • Outbound HTTPS/DNS failure from the Joomla server to www.quantacade.com.
  • The canonical update-site record is disabled/corrupt or a previous duplicate record is interfering.
  • Joomla’s update cache contains stale data.
  • A proxy/firewall/TLS problem blocks the update XML request.
  • Installer permissions prevent the current administrator from refreshing or installing updates.

Repair approach

Installing the current complete QCTNH package over itself safely reruns the package update-site synchronization logic. If the problem persists, capture Joomla’s exact update error and the QCTNH Status fields for support rather than changing the Task Nudge service settings.

Keep update/support state separate from scheduler state

Troubleshooting the QCTNH Update Connection belongs to QCTNH’s administrator/support/update layer. The Status tab’s update connection uses Joomla Installer and QuantaCade’s update XML endpoint; the Dashboard connection uses the Task Nudge service registration and native WebCron. One can fail while the other remains healthy.

Use the tab that corresponds to the problem so a software-update issue does not lead you to rotate a working WebCron credential or service identity unnecessarily.
