Understanding Laboratory Creation Progress

The Laboratory progress display reflects the saved copy/isolation operation rather than a cosmetic request counter.

Read both the label and progress

QCUL stores the current state, cursor, progress current/total, attempt, heartbeat, result, and error. Labels such as Copying site files, Copying site data, Securing laboratory, or Disabling outgoing activity tell you which safety stage is active.

Normal progress behavior

• Progress can move in uneven increments because files and database tables differ greatly in size.
• A completed browser request starts the next bounded request while the page remains open.
• Changing progress text should not be interpreted as a full page reload; QCUL advances work via AJAX.
• The laboratory becomes Ready to test only after copy, isolation, and quarantine work are complete.

When progress is not normal

If the same state/signature repeats without movement, read the error/message and investigate resources, permissions, or the specific failed stage. Repeated clicking is not a recovery strategy; use the displayed Resume/Retry action after correcting the cause.

Safety check before update testing

Before relying on Understanding Laboratory Creation Progress, confirm the private copy still shows laboratory identity, its access gate works, and ordinary browsing stays inside the lab rather than silently using production. The cloned site contains production-derived data, so a laboratory that is not demonstrably isolated should be repaired or refreshed before any update rehearsal.
