Using the Laboratory Access Code

The laboratory access code is the human credential for the external private gate; successful verification creates a run-specific browser cookie rather than exposing Joomla directly to unauthenticated visitors.

Location: Joomla Administrator → Components → QC Update Laboratory → Laboratory.

Step-by-step procedure

1. From the production site, open QC Update Laboratory → Laboratory and read the Active Laboratory access details.
2. Open the private laboratory URL in a separate/private browser window.
3. Enter the laboratory access code when the external gate requests it.
4. After successful verification, QCUL issues the lab-scoped access cookie and loads Joomla.
5. Do not share the access code or the private laboratory URL publicly.

Handle the code like a secret

The laboratory is production-derived and may contain real customer/user/order/ticket/file data. Store the code privately, do not include it in screenshots/public forum posts, and replace the laboratory if you believe the code or URL was exposed.

The code is run-specific

Refreshing/removing the lab can replace or invalidate the prior private environment. Always use the access details currently displayed by production QCUL rather than a bookmarked old URL/code.

Safety check before update testing

Before relying on Using the Laboratory Access Code, confirm the private copy still shows laboratory identity, its access gate works, and ordinary browsing stays inside the lab rather than silently using production. The cloned site contains production-derived data, so a laboratory that is not demonstrably isolated should be repaired or refreshed before any update rehearsal.
